ABOUT THE JOURNAL

Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena is an online journal (ISSN 0717-7356) published by the Universidad de Tarapacá's Department of Anthropology. It was founded in November 1972 and has been consistently published by the Universidad de Tarapacá's Department of Anthropology in an annual volume with four issues per year. From 2025, Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena will switch to continuous publication. It was founded in November 1972 and since that date has been systematically published. The journal's mission is to share original research, both empirical and theoretical, across various fields of anthropology and related disciplines, including social anthropology, archaeology, bioanthropology, sociology, ecology, geography, history, linguistics, musicology, semiotics, art, and museum studies. Chungara also acknowledges and values Indigenous knowledge systems, fostering dialogue between diverse perspectives while addressing the pressing sustainability challenges of our time. It welcomes articles that offer new insights into the regions of South America as part of Latin American history and culture. It also accepts manuscripts from other parts of the world, providing they offer comparative perspectives in terms of theory, methods and empirical analysis. Submissions must be original contributions resulting from research into the dynamics of human societies both past and present, anchored in the analysis of a social issue, and supported by up-to-date theoretical and methodological discussions.

The journal's editorial structure includes the following sections: Editorial, Tributes and Obituaries, Scientific texts in the form of Synthesis Articles, Monographic Reports, Debates, Comments on articles published in Chungara and Book Reviews, both in Spanish and English. Manuscripts can be submitted throughout the year via the Open Journals System (OJS) https://www.chungara.cl/index.php/es/ and are published in order of acceptance. Should you have any questions or concerns you can contact us via email: (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). The text must be in editable Microsoft Word format, with line numbers inserted (Format option: Document design: Layout: Line numbers), letter-size paper with 2.5cm margins. The length of the paper should not exceed 10,000 words, excluding Cited References. The manuscripts (text, bibliographical citations, tables, figures, notes, and cited references) must adhere to Chungara Revista de Antropología Chilena's stylistic guidelines, which can be downloaded at www.chungara.cl.

Contributions are evaluated initially by the Editorial and/or Editorial Advisory Committee to determine whether the manuscript is suitable for publication in the journal. The first step is to run a software tool designed to verify originality of content, and if it is within its editorial lines, it is sent to at least two independent external reviewers to assess its scientific quality. The review process is conducted anonymously and follows a double-blind peer review model, with feedback provided according to the journal's Evaluation Guidelines. The decision to accept or reject your article will be made by the Editorial Committee. The submission and acceptance dates are indicated in the footer of first printed page of each article, below the author(s) affiliation. Publication is free of charge and all published articles are open access.
